The trio Verbist/Baars/Lagatie consists of Milan Verbist (piano), Tristan Baars (double bass) and Arne Lagatie (drums). The three musicians got to know each other at the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp in 2020, where all three were studying at the time and played together weekly with teacher Kurt Van Herck (tenor saxophone).

Since then this trio has already played some fifty concerts at venues including Jazz Station, Rataplan, Platform Bernaerts, Jazzzolder, Jacques Pelzer, The Black Cat, … They also made recordings for Klara, as part of Milan’s selection for the programme ‘De Twintigers’. They play both original compositions by the three of them and work by musicians who inspire them.

For this occasion the trio invites their former teacher, saxophonist Kurt Van Herck (among others Brussels Jazz Orchestra, Cinema Paradiso…). Van Herck is a busy musician at home and abroad. Alongside his work in smaller line-ups Kurt is also a sought-after big band player: the former BRT orchestra, Act Big Band, Dizzy Gillespie Big Band, European Broadcast Union and the Brussels Jazz Orchestra are his musical home base. In 1997 he received the Django d'Or and in 1999 he was the VRT listeners' first choice. Since 1995 Kurt has been attached to the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, where he teaches saxophone, ensemble and big band in the jazz department.
